Learning stop motion for a music video
In 2019, during my gap year after school, I was spending a lot of time making small videos and trying to learn filmmaking.
A friend saw some of the stuff I had posted on Instagram and asked if I could make a music video for him. He sent me a reference for the kind of video he wanted. I liked it, but I had no idea what that style was called.
I asked someone I knew who was more into film, and she told me it was stop motion. After that I just watched a bunch of YouTube videos to understand how people actually made it.
We shot the whole thing in my room over a couple of days. I used a Samsung S9, a tripod taped to a wooden study table, and whatever objects and sheets we already had around the house.
I edited it on LumaFusion on an iPad, because that was the setup I had access to at the time.
I charged about $20 for the project, which was basically the price of LumaFusion. So in my head, I had made the video and got myself a video editing app out of it.
It was a small project, but a fun one. Someone asked for something I had never made before, I figured out what it was, learnt how to do it, and we got the video out in a couple of days.
